February 11, 2025 - VFW Post 8904 and Auxiliary observe the Vietnam Peace Accord of 1973 on its 52nd anniversary Monday, January 27, 2025.
VFW Post 8904 Adjutant Larry Hume welcomed everyone and give the opening prayer. The group then recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
"The Paris Peace Accord that ended the Vietnam War was signed 52 years ago on January 27, 1973, and that was followed by the withdrawal of the remaining American Troops. The terms of the accord called for the complete ceasefire in South Vietnam. It allowed North Vietnamese forces to retain the territory that they had captured, it provided for the release of U.S. prisoners of war, and it called for both sides to find a political solution for the conflict as an enticement to South Vietnam, President Nixon at that time offered U.S. air power to enforce the peace terms. This was however, stopped in December 1974 when Congress cut off all military aid to South Vietnam," said Hume.
"More than 58,000 Americans gave their lives in the Vietnam War and there are still over 1,500 missing in action. There are 11 veterans here in Shelby County who were killed in action in Vietnam and one who died while preparing to deploy to Vietnam," said Hume. "we like to remember them this day by reading their names."
The names, which are listed at the bottom of this article, were then read by VFW Post 8904 Auxiliary members Mary Fausett; Jan Ramsey; and Post Quartermaster Mary Roberts.
VFW member Ray Miller placed the tribute wreath on the Veteran's memorial in honor of the Shelby County Veterans and all those lost in the Vietnam War.
The program was closed with the playing of Taps presented by Post Jr. Vice: Derrick Roberts.

February 11, 2025 - Praise & Prints Boutique celebrated it’s grand opening with a ribbon cutting event held February 1, 2025.
The Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce was there to participate with Jase Lloyd in in commemorating his new business venture in Timpson.
Lloyd explained explained he can make prints for businesses to use for their own pressing purposes, or he can do the pressing. He has a line of shirts to choose from. Lloyd can design for the customer or they can provide their own design for printing.
Lloyd says customers should look forward to additional promotions and giveaways to encourage business around Timpson.
One featured item at Praise & Prints Boutique is SuSu’s Popcorn, which has a variety of specialty flavors for customers to choose from.
“SuSu’s has specialty flavors like ‘Dill Pickle,’ ‘Cake Batter,’ ‘Confetti,’ all kinds of stuff,” said Lloyd. “We’ve got one made for us for Timpson Bears.”

“We’ve got a prayer wall, you come in and put your prayers up on the wall so we come in and grab it, pray over it for you and you don’t have to put your name or anything,” said Lloyd. “You can highlight your favorite bible verse in the bible and then we pray over wall every week.”

February 11, 2025 - The Timpson Ministerial Alliance Scholarship Banquet was, once again, a resounding success. This year's theme, "Building Dreams, One Scholarship at a Time," truly resonated with all in attendance.
We are deeply grateful to Dr. McMillion for sharing such inspiring and motivational words during the event. February 5, 2025 - The city of Joaquin thanks Joaquin FFA members for their work updating the cross that has been on the water tower for years, and which will now be visible during the day.
FFA students were able to complete the project in two weeks time. Those that participated in the project all signed the cross on the back before being placed back on the tower.

February 3, 2025 - Three students whose hometown is Center, Texas are listed on the Sam Houston State University Dean’s List for the Fall of 2024..
The university recognizes the following local students for earning the honor for the Fall 2024 semester: Jasmine Cooks, Alfredo Maldonado Benav, and Jalen Postell.
The students listed on the Dean's List of Academic Honors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a perfect 4.0 in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours.
January 30, 2025 - Center Power Sports, Center’s newest ATV, UTV and motorcycle dealer, was honored recently by Taiwanese manufacturer Kymco in a worldwide promotion for the dependability and reliability of their products.
In the last quarter of 2024, Kymco offered with the sale of a new unit, discounted pricing on parts for the life of the ATV or UTV purchased. Designating it the “Lifetime Patriot Program,” Kymco offered a $5,000 cash prize for the most creative dealer promotion.
Local Kymco dealer, Center Powersports, earned the award that, according to a Kymco spokesperson, was a unanimous decision by company executives who voted on the many entries submitted.
Center Powersports showroom display (pictured) promoted the legendary folklore figure known as Bigfoot, humorously suggesting that even the cultural icon relies on the reliability of Kymco products.
Kymco, founded in 1964, originally made parts for Honda but began manufacturing Kymko branded products in 1992. They produce more than 570,000 vehicles annually employing 3,000 people. Units manufactured since 1992 totals 7 million.

January 29, 2025 - VFW Post 8904 made a $100 donation to Happy Tails Adoption Center, Shelby County, Texas. A post member matched the donation to bring the total to $200. Presenting are Post Quartermaster Mary Roberts, Post Jr. Vice Derrick Roberts, and Post Life Member Everett Cougler. Accepting on behalf of Happy Tails is Kelsey Hairgrove.

January 28, 2025 - Masons with the Sam Samford Lodge #149 in Center delivered water to the Center Police Department on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
Representing the Sam Samford Lodge were Paul Ragan, Sammy Arnold, Alan Ricketson, and Troy Keele, who all delivered a pallet of bottled drinking water donated by H&S Grocery in Center.
Officers made quick work of offloading the pallet of cases of water and carrying the cases inside of the police department.
