February 13, 2019 - Shelby County Outreach Ministries, Inc. needs these items of the month: bagged beans, bagged rice, spaghetti noodles, peanut butter, tuna, Ramen noodle soup, and macaroni and cheese.
We want to thank all of you that have donated items in the past. The food you donate goes to families and individuals who are dealing with food insecurities. So, help us help others by dropping off some of these items to the Outreach. Every can helps. Thank you and God Bless.
February 13, 2019 - Today is the last day! Shelby County Outreach Ministries will draw the name of the winner Thursday, February 14th at 11:00 am at the Senior Nutrition Site. We need all tickets turned in by today, February 13th so we can have them ready for the big moment!
Reminder: The raffle is for a brand new 10x16 Steel Building made by General Shelters. Tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100. The winner is responsible for moving costs. Come by the Outreach today to get your last-minute tickets! For questions, call 598-4990.

February 9, 2019 - It is Love Your Library month at the Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library in Center. You can support our local library by becoming a Friend of the Library.
The Friends of the Library raise funds through book sales, raffles and membership fees. We want our library to be able to continue ordering new books (both regular books and e-books), providing interesting programs including the delightful Holiday Puppet show, and many other activities.
Join the Friends of the Library today, by picking up an application at the library or by calling 936-598-5522 to have one mailed to you.
February 4, 2019 Huntsville - Sam Houston State University would like to recognize LaJada Hicks from Center, Texas for earning the honor of being named to the Dean's List and the President's List for the Fall 2018 semester.
Students listed on the President's List of Academic Honors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a perfect grade point average in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours.
LaJada Hicks is majoring in Victim Studies in the college of Criminal Justice and is a 2018 Center High School graduate.

January 31, 2019 - Baby Lou Gardner, of Center, was recognized during the Deep East Texas Council of Governments meeting held in San Augustine January 24, 2019.
She was presented with a plaque which reads: "Baby Lou Gardner, in appreciation of your outstanding service on the Board of Directors of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments."
January 30, 2019 - Help is available for community members in the midst of a substance abuse addiction. The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas (ADAC) is here to help guide and support anyone struggling with substance abuse. If you believe you may need assistance, call and arrange an appointment to be scheduled with our Outreach, Screening, Assessment, and Referral Program (OSAR) to find the best support for you. January 30, 2019 - Hope Community Medicine would like to let the public know that if you or someone you know receive a letter in the mail from "Project Hope" with what is titled "Center 2019 Annual Fund Drive" it is not the local Hope Community Medicine.


January 30, 2019 (More photos) - The Annual MLK Day Celebration was held Monday, January 21st. A group gathered on the downtown square to participate in the annual march which travels from the downtown Center Square, turns onto Shelbyville Street, turns down Martin Luther King Drive and ends at Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church where participants continued honoring the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr.

January 30th Update: Shelby County Children’s Advocacy Center reports tickets for the Princess Ball for Sold Out.
January 23, 2019 - The eighth annual Princess Ball is approaching! Start planning now to attend the Shelby County Children’s Advocacy Center Princess Ball on Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the John D. Windham Civic Center. The evening will include a pink carpet entrance, music and dancing, refreshments, and a special gift for each princess that attends. Photographers will be available starting at 5:30 pm. The event is open to girls ages 3-13 and their adult family member escort. Tickets are $20 and are on sale now. Table reservations for parties of eight are available for an additional $50. You must purchase tickets before the event—they are not sold at the door. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to give your princess a magical night.
