April 24, 2015 - Center Garden Club members Linda Bordelon, (shown with Incoming Texas Garden Clubs State President Carol Moore and Texas State President Sarah McReynolds), Carolyn Bounds, Alison Scull, Robbie Kerr, Judy Matthews, Jackie Hancock, Shirley Owens, and Cherry Jones attended the Youth Awards luncheon on Wednesday, April 22, at the 87th Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. Spring Convention in Tyler, Texas.

Center High School Senior Kelsie Waller, who was sponsored by the Center Garden Club, read her 1st place speech and was awarded $500. Other Center Garden Club state youth winners were as follows:

4th Grade Sculpture Honorable Mention from Center Elementary - Eric Allen, Darin Livingston, Astra Lee, and Alaisha Garrett

5th Grade Sculpture Honorable Mention from Center Elementary - Skyler Causey, Seth Shamblin, Wyatt Stone, and Emilee Elliott

April 24, 2015 - Center Garden Club members Linda Bordelon and Jackie Hancock (shown with District III Director Nita Beale), who served as delegates to the Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. 87th Annual Spring Convention in Tyler, Texas, April 20-23, attended workshops on "Bamboo in the Landscape," "Repurposed Containers," "Floral Designs by Flower Show Judges," and "Keyhole Gardens."

They participated in a special Arbor Day Ceremony and planted a tree at Tyler Jr. College, and toured the gardens and art museum. Entertainment was provided by the Tyler Jr. College "Apache Bells" and Smith 'n Nokes "Uncommon Comedy" with a program "Empower Your Flowers."

183 Texas Garden Club members were hosted by District III Tyler Area council of Garden Clubs and District III Flower Show Judges Council. Decorations were used with the theme "East Texas Blooms."

April 23, 2015 - Members with the Preceptor Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held their annual fundraiser drawing on Monday, April 20, 2015 and Kim Oswalt (fourth from left) won the Grand Prize Package of a Portacool Cyclone 1000 ($369 Value) donated by Portacool; Bayou Cooker ($150 Value) donated by McAdams Propane; $150 Gift Certificate donated by Dance Furniture & Appliance; $150 Walmart Gift Card donated by General Shelters & Jimmy L. Howard, Inc. and an NFL Houston Texans Cooler ($100 Value) donated by Lacie Payne.

Presenting the grand prize to Oswalt include Preceptor Upsilon members (left to right) Pam Phelps, Lourie Ihlo, Chapter President, Mary Masterson, the 2014 Grand Prize fundraiser winner, (Oswalt), Andi Foster, Ways & Means Chair, and Linda Miller, Treasurer. April 22, 2015 - The Golden Harvest Ministries Club met April 20, 2015 in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church . Joe Anderson brought the meeting to order by calling on Ron Barbee to give the opening prayer. He then recognized our visitors who were Joe Fiedler, Margaret and Gene Casto and Elizabeth Pate. Harold Hanson led us as we sang “He Keeps Me Singing” and “ America the Beautiful.” Alice West played the piano as we sang.

W. A. Moore celebrates his birthday this month and we sang for him. Those having wedding anniversaries this month were Winnie Preston and Danny and Darlene Brown and Dot Bain. We sang Happy Anniversary for them. David Bain asked the blessing on the food and there were many compliments for the cooks.

Linda Anderson, Program Chair, introduced the members of the William Carol Crawford Chapter of the Daughter’s of the Republic of Texas who gave the program. We sang “Deep in the Heart of Texas” before Maggie Casto gave highlights of the beginnings of Texas that is how we gained our independence. She explained that the San Jacinto18 minute war was a factor in establishing independence and how it helped the United States gain territory beyond Texas . Texas is the 28th State gaining independence in 1845. The Daughter’s of the Republic are proud to be Texans and their purpose is to inspire others to learn about our history. Nori Latimer and Ruby Switzer are also Daughter’s of the Republic.

Minutes of the last meeting were read. Betty Green gave the treasures report. Joe Anderson thanked the volunteers who help in the kitchen. Alice West reported that the trip to Branson was good even though it rained most of the time. Ann Forbes went over the list of Prayer needs. Helen Collard led us in closing prayer remembering those on the prayer list.

Beta Sigma Phi is an international non-profit organization, non-academic sorority for women offering opportunities friendship, development of cultural appreciation, and community service. The Greek letters stand for life, learning and friendship. Approximately, 12,500 chapters in 20 countries meet twice a month for a brief business meeting and cultural program. Founded by Walter W. Ross in Abilene, Kansas in 1931 with seven members, the organization today has 250,000 members. April 20, 2015 - CASA of Deep East Texas welcomes three new CASA/GAL's to Nacogdoches County. Honorable Judge Klein swore in Amy Reed, Debra Judge, and Elizabeth 'Sam' Pederson on April 20, 2015. They will soon be the voice for a child in foster care and stand up for them in court. The next tentative training is scheduled for June. Applications are being accepted. April 2015  Texas State Bank sponsored the "Seniors who Made A Difference" banquet for the 2015 graduating class of Logansport High School. It was held on April 14 at the John D Windham Civic Center in Center, Texas. Mark Ivey, President, Texas State Bank, gave the welcome to all and David Graves, Director, Texas State Bank, gave the invocation. A delicious meal was served to the six seniors chosen, as well as the teachers each student had chosen that had a made a difference in their school career, along with other school and bank officials.

April 19, 2015 - Sassy Red's Bakery on the Center square held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 with the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors on hand and members of the community to celebrate the business.

Pam Phelps, Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, and Meg Camp, Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassador President, welcomed Sassy Red's Bakery owner Cindy Lindsey.

"We're glad to be on Shelbyville Street here today at Little Fox Market Place to welcome Sassy Red's Bakery and that we've all enjoyed and continue to enjoy and will continue to spread the word of all your creations," said Phelps.

Lindsey described her bakery as a place that can provide whatever may be desired and she is trying new things all the time. She says the bakery has a regular supply of cupcakes, cookies and custom cakes are a regular thing for all occasions including weddings and birthdays.

"We are very, very glad you are here. What a wonderful fresh store to be right here on the square, and I enjoy following your Facebook page and I love to look at all the cakes and how beautiful they are," said Camp.

During the event, those who attended were able to partake of refreshments developed in the bakery. Sassy Red's Bakery is located inside Little Fox Market Place at 101 Shelbyville Street on the Center square. The bakery is open from 9am-5pm daily. From right: Judy Adkison, Nora Robinson, Billie Bailey, Sue Carter and Linda BordelonApril 15, 2015 - Delta Gamma Ceremonies Chairman Linda Bordelon and members Judy Adkison, Nora Robinson, Billie Bailey, and Sue Carter led other members as they celebrated Delta Gamma's 67th birthday at their April meeting in Timpson.

On April 17, 1948 the Delta Gamma Chapter began when 14 key women teachers from Sabine, San Augustine, and Shelby Counties met at the Polley Hotel in Center, Texas with Dr. Eula Lee Carter, the Texas state founder who first organized The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Today this celebrated association is organized in 17 countries and represents approximately 80,000 of the world's most respected women educators. Texas boasts more than 9,000 members in nearly 300 chapters.
