Margaret Smith's Quilt "Stop and Smell the Flowers"
Quilt photo from the HLSR website.

April 29, 2021 - Margaret Smith's "Stop and Smell the Flowers" quilt received a white ribbon in the 2021 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Quilt Contest. Smith represented the Shelby County, Area Go Texan Committee in the contest.

According to the HLSR website, the quilt category was Machine Quilting/Mixed Technique. The quilt is 91 x 67 inches. The flower blocks are not arranged in alphabetical order; but arranged in order that one might drive across the United States going from West to East, zigzagging around the states. The pattern was by Lisa Moore, "I Spy Alaska with a Twist." Embroidery designs by Amazing Designs, "State Flowers Collection 1."

Smith's submission statement for the quilt was "I have been fortunate enough to be able to visit all 50 States and wanted something to showcase my memories and the beauty of our magnificent country; what better way than the amazing Fifty (50) State Flowers."
