June 4, 2026 - I don’t know about you, but my family does a good job of making fun of me. You see, I just don’t like to throw anything away. In fact, my storage building is filled with treasures (my family says junk) that I might need some day or that might come in handy sometime. I would venture to say that some reading this do the same thing. To be sure, the habit of saving things we might need sometime in the future is universal. We try to put away part of our earnings for a "rainy day”. We store vegetables in the freezer and in canning jars. With a wisdom born of the instinct of self-preservation we look to future value of things as well as present use.
It reminds me of the words of the Psalmist in Psalm 119:11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart.” You see, the Psalmist has discovered the secret of the victorious life. It is to store up God’s Word in the heart that in time of need it might come to his aid. This shows the wisdom of this man in accumulating a treasure of divine truth for his soul.
We have no idea what the future holds for any of us. However, we may be certain that it will bring many occasions when the Word of God will be our only adequate help. Discouragement will come. We will know sorrow, heartache and pain. There will be seasons where we will be overwhelmed, perplexed and confused. It is in those times that the wisdom we have stored up from God’s Word will help to see us through. How are we doing with hiding God’s word in our heart?
It’s something to think about. . . tbp
