David’s Daily Devotion for Apr. 1

April 1, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, April 1.

We continue our week-long series “The Road to Resurrection “, as we follow the steps of Christ through Holy Week, the days that led to the Cross, the days that led to the Empty Tomb. Wednesday of that week is sometimes called “Silent Wednesday” because the Bible gives no details about the activities of Jesus on that day. But perhaps the lack of activity is the lesson.

It is assumed that Christ and His disciples spent Wednesday back at the home of Mary and Martha and Lazarus in Bethany. Perhaps they were decompressing from the hectic events of the previous three days. Perhaps they were resting in anticipation of the coming storm.

There are numerous examples in scripture of Jesus taking time away, taking time to rest. For three years He lived the life of a celebrity with crowds of people following Him wherever He went, clamoring for His attention. It must have been an exhausting experience. In Mark 6:31 He spoke to His disciples and said, “Come away with me to a quiet place where we can rest”.

Perhaps, like most people, you live a busy, hurried, hectic life - filled with appointments and projects and to-do lists and deadlines. It can be an exhausting experience. Jesus, in all things, is our greatest example. Take time to step back once in a while, detach from the hubbub and the hurry, come away and rest. Maybe Easter week is an especially busy week for you. Even with all the busyness, don’t forget to spend some time with friends and family. Spend some time in the Word. Spend some time with Him.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
