David’s Daily Devotion for Apr. 23

April 23, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, April 23.

This coming Sunday morning, at First Baptist Church of Center, Texas, we'll be singing an anointed song of worship, "Majesty". It was written in 1981 by California pastor, author, publisher Jack Hyles. He led one of the first "mega-churches", The Church On the Way, wrote dozens of books, and over 600 gospel songs. On Sunday, we'll pair Majesty with a contemporary Christian song called "Christ, Be Magnified". It is our prayer that, in that moment, God will be given honor, glory, and praise.

Majesty was inspired by a moment that Jack Hyles experienced when on vacation in England. While there, he and his wife toured a medieval castle. As they walked through the huge stone-lined rooms, Hyles began to imagine what it would have been like to grow up in a place like that, as the child of a king, as a prince or a princess. Surely those young people would have thought of themselves as "world changers" because of the legacy of their birth.

Pastor Hyles was inspired to see himself as a child of a king, and was reminded that, through the power of the King of Kings, he could be a world changer, too. And he was inspired to write these lyrics

Majesty, worship His majesty
Unto Jesus be all honor, glory, and praise
Majesty, kingdom authority flow from His throne
Unto His own, His anthem raise
So exalt, lift up on high the name of Jesus
Magnify, come glorify Christ Jesus, the King
Majesty, worship His majesty
Jesus who died, now glorified, King of all Kings!

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
