David’s Daily Devotion for Aug. 20

August 20, 2026 - Good Morning!  It’s Thursday, August 20.

There’s nothing trivial about the Word of God.  I’m sure you’d add an “amen” to that statement.  But, having said that, there is such a thing as Bible trivia.  My mom had a half dozen Bible trivia games plus a dozen more Bible trivia books - all of which I inherited.  Bible trivia includes little fun facts that can both amuse and illuminate.  So, here’s a dozen for you on this summer morning.  Feel free to pull them out to amaze your friends with your impressive biblical knowledge.

  • *Esther is the only book of the Bible that never mentions the name of God.
  • *China produces more Bibles than any other country.
  • *3 John is the shortest book, with about 200 words. You can read it in under a minute.
  • *There are six women named Mary in the New Testament.
  • *On average, women read the Bible more than men, older people more than younger, and African Americans more than any other ethnic group.
  • *The longest verse is Esther 8:9 with about 90 words.  Memorize that!
  • *Horses are mentioned 156 times in the Word, dogs 41 times, cats . . . zero.
  • *The Wicked Bible, published in 1631, omits the word “not” from the seventh commandment - leaving us with “Thou SHALT commit adultery”.
  • *The name David is found over 1100 times in the Bible, second only to the name Jesus (1300).
  • *The Vinegar Bible changes Christ’s Parable of the Vineyard to . . . well, you can guess.
  • *93 women speak in the Bible.  Their words make up approximately 1% of God’s Word.
  • *And finally, “hate” is found about 90 times in scripture, but we read the word “love” more than 300 times.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
