August 27, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, August 27.
Bro. David is on vacation this week and will be reprinting some favorite devotions. This one first aired on October 20, 2020.
Behind every successful person, behind ever accomplished person, behind every famous person - there's a great teacher, a teacher that made a difference. Everyone knows the name Helen Keller. She was one of the most famous people of the 20th century, a blind and deaf author, activist, lecturer, a friend of kings and presidents. Helen Keller made a difference in the world, and standing behind her was her teacher, Annie Sullivan.
Annie Sullivan was just 20 years old when she came to live with the Keller family in Alabama in 1886. She transformed young Helen when she held her hand and began to finger spell the names of every object that Helen touched. A great teacher judges their success by the success of their students. If there had been no Annie Sullivan, there would have been no Helen Keller.
The greatest teacher that the world has ever known was Jesus Christ. The New Testament refers to Him on 90 occasions, and 60 of those times He is called "Teacher". That's what His disciples called Him. That's what He called Himself - John 13:13 - "You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am". Jesus, like all great teachers, never tried to impress, but to inspire. Jesus, like all great teachers, never spoke over the heads of His students, but carefully crafted unique lessons just for them, just for us. His teaching is available to you this morning.
Annie Sullivan was a great teacher. She died on this day in 1938 . . . and Helen Keller was holding her hand.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
