February 18, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, February 18.
Last month it got down to a frigid 18 degrees at my house outside of Tenaha, Texas. Then last week it was a balmy 81! By the end of this week we’ll have another hard freeze. Texas weather . . . it’s the swings that’ll get ya!
But we make it through these drastic swings, we deal with surprising circumstances, by maintaining a long view, by keeping our eyes on the big picture. Right now we’re not particularly disappointed that the “false spring” didn’t last, because it’s February and we knew that Old Man Winter wasn’t finished with us yet. And we’ll manage the hard freezes in a few days, because we know it won’t be long till we’ll be turning off the heaters, opening the windows, and enjoying a real spring. The long view, the big picture - it’s how we cope with Texas weather.
We sometimes encounter swings in relationships, too. Maybe you’ve had a friend or family member that you were once very close to, but no longer. Maybe it was because of a bad experience, or maybe it was just time or distance. Sometimes those relationships can swing back again, and that’s a blessing. Our spiritual lives can experience these cycle of change, as well. We may have “mountain top” moments when we feel connected to our brothers and sisters in Christ, warmly supported by His church. Times when God feels very close. But sometimes the church, its people - and God - may seem very far away. We can weather these changes, and deal with these swings, by keeping our eyes on the long view, by remembering the big picture, by trusting His plan.
Billy Graham said it like this - “I’ve read the last page of the book, and I know how the story ends.” Here’s a verse from that last page (Revelation 22:21) - “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with God’s people”.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
