February 19, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, February 19.
We wrestle with some big questions today - “Why did the chicken cross the road?”, “What came first, the chicken or the egg?”, and “Am I the eggs or the bacon?” The answers to the first two questions are “to get to the other side” and “the chicken”. But let’s take a little time to examine the third question, because it relates to commitment, the level of our commitment to God.
A person’s commitment level to the Lord is difficult to determine from the “outside looking in”. Christians can sometimes be very skilled at projecting a false face to the world. We may maintain a semblance of commitment through an aura of regular church attendance and busyness in church projects, but on the inside, our hearts may be very far from God. Great involvement doesn’t always mean great commitment. Which brings us to our third question. When it comes to an eggs and bacon breakfast, the chicken is involved, but the pig . . . is committed.
Matthew 22:37 gives us a picture of how God defines commitment - “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind”. You don’t have to be a Bible scholar to recognize that the operative word in that verse is ALL. So how can we live a life of commitment at the level of God’s design? Certainly not by our own strength. Perhaps we find the answer in Galatians 2:20 - “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who lives, but Christ who lives in me”.
So, we meditate this morning on the subject of commitment. And we ask ourselves the question - Am I the eggs or the bacon?
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
