David’s Daily Devotion Feb. 28

February 28, 2025 - Good Morning!  It’s Friday, February 28.

Don’t look now, but February is about to be in the rear-view mirror.  Is it just me, or is 2025 flying by like a freight train?  March is on the doorstep, and the first day of Spring is just three weeks away.  In March, as Mother Nature begins to really strut her stuff, we’ll have a series on our Creator and His beautiful creation.

But let’s pause for a moment to remember February.  It’s the year’s shortest, and often snowiest, month.  It’s the month of Groundhog Day, the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, and President’s Day.  It’s also the month set aside to recall great events and great people in Black history.  Today, as February ends, we remember a famous Black spiritual - “We Are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder”.

“Jacob’s Ladder” was probably written around 1800.  Like most spirituals, its origin story is largely guesswork.  It’s based on the passage in Genesis 28 where Jacob dreams of a ladder leading up to heaven.  This song, that gave hope and comfort to the slaves, became one of the first Black gospel songs that was sung by white Christians.

Today, it reminds us to keep moving forward.  It inspires us to press on, to strive, to dream.  We are climbing Jacob’s ladder, you and I - soldiers of the Cross!

Meet you back here on Monday,

David
