January 26, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Friday, January 26.
In the summer of 1695, Swiss mathematician John Bernoulli offered a challenge to the world's scientists. He placed a six-month limit on the solving of an "unsolvable" problem. And, sure enough, at the end of six months, the great minds of the earth had been unsuccessful. But then, on January 26, 1696, the problem was given to Bernoulli's rival, Sir Isaac Newton, who proceeded to solve it . . . in one night. Genius!
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is considered one of the greatest composers who has ever lived, writing over 800 classic pieces in his short life. And how old was he when he began to write music? He was five. Genius! And when we hear the name Leonardo da Vinci, we usually think of his paintings like "The Last Supper" and "The Mona Lisa". But this polymath (someone who is world-class in several areas) was also an engineer, an architect, a scientist, an astronomer, and an inventor. Genius!
The lives of men like Newton, Mozart, and da Vinci inspire some to praise the human race, to marvel at the human mind. But, perhaps these great men should inspire us to praise a great God, and to marvel at the One who created them "in His own image". Perhaps these geniuses supply us with ever-so-brief glimpses, with tiny snapshots of the Almighty Creator.
Psalm 86:10 - You are great, O Lord, and You do marvelous things; You alone are God.
Meet you back here on Monday,
Bro. David
