November 5, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, November 5.
On this day, in 1911, Leonard Slye was born. Doesn’t ring any bells? Well, perhaps you’ll recognize his “stage name” - Roy Rogers. At one time he was the world’s favorite movie and TV cowboy, but Roy was also an accomplished guitarist, vocalist, and one heck of a yodeler! His music group, “Sons of the Pioneers”, was hugely popular, with hits like “Tumblin’ Tumbleweeds” and “Cool Water”. After making over a hundred films, Rogers launched a television show in the 1950’s which became a leading feature of that fledgling entertainment industry.
But the biggest accomplishment of Roy Rogers’ life was marrying his cowgirl sweetheart, Dale Evans. She had a significant effect on his career, and an even greater effect on his spiritual life. It was Dale who led Roy to have a personal relationship with God. Together their faith sustained them through the loss of two of their children. And together they appeared many times alongside Billy Graham in his revival crusades.
I, like many Baby Boomer boys, wanted to grow up to be just like Roy Rogers. But the Christian gentleman that Roy Rogers grew up to be is a worthy example for us all.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
