David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 11

September 11, 2025 - Good Morning. It’s Thursday, September 11.

I was getting ready for work, that Tuesday morning in early September of 2001. When the clock struck 7:46, a bulletin came on the television. The newscaster said that a small plane had flown into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. A few minutes later, the report changed. It wasn’t a small plane, it was a commercial airliner. Just after 8:00, we learned that a second airliner had crashed into the South Tower. And we realized that America was under attack.

I went on to work, at a local church, but my day, like everyone’s, stayed tied to the TV. And the news just got worse and worse. That night, hundreds of people attended a prayer service at my church. Many were strangers to our congregation. They came to pray, yes, but more than that, they just came to be with other people, to be part of a group, part of a community. Moments of tragedy can, so often, bring us together. That night we prayed, and we sang a song of prayer, “God Bless America”. We had sung it countless times before, but never with such intensity, never with such emotion.

It’s hard to believe that these memories are 24 years old now. And it’s daunting to think about all that has occurred since 911, all that has changed, all that continues to change. But America remains, despite all her faults and shortcomings, the greatest nation on earth. And we continue, today, to pray for God’s wisdom, for God’s vision, for God’s blessing.

God Bless America.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

David
