September 24, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, September 24.
We continue today with our week-long series on dealing with disappointment. Our focus includes a biblical place that holds an important place in Jesus' ministry and in the story of the early church. We know this place as the Upper Room.
When we think of the Upper Room, we usually think of the Last Supper. It is assumed that this was a home in Jerusalem owned by one of Christ's followers. On that Thursday night, two thousand years ago, it was a sacred place for the revelation of the New Covenant, the new relationship of grace provided by the Father, through the sacrifice of His only Son.
Many theologians believe that the Upper Room was also the location of the first Christian Church. But, in between these two momentous moments, there were three other moments of peace, prayer, and power. Moments that led the disciples out of disappointment.
The night of the resurrection the disciples were hiding in that same Upper Room, when Jesus suddenly appeared and gave them peace. After Christ ascended back to heaven, the apostles returned to that room and began a season of prayer. We're reminded of how important prayer is in dealing with disappointment. And then on Pentecost Sunday, the disciples were once again gathered in the Upper Room, and from peace and prayer came power, with the coming of the Holy Spirit.
What a journey those twelve men had been on. A journey from fear to purpose. A journey from confusion to confidence. A journey from disappointment to hope.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
