David’s Daily Devotional for July 9

July 9, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, July 9.

Today is Grocery Day at my house. This auspicious moment comes around about every ten days for us, depending on how hungry we’ve been. Before I retired I never experienced the honor of being part of Grocery Day, but I’m on the team now! And I’ve learned that it all comes down to one thing. One word. Choices.

If you’ve traveled much outside of the United States, you’ve learned that the range of shopping choices here in America is far greater than most any other country. A blessing. Unless you’re standing in the cereal aisle at Walmart. Too many choices! It can seem a bit overwhelming, comparing prices and packaging and ingredients and cartoon mascots and nostalgic appeal and... I just usually end up choosing Cheerios. But wait - do I want Honey Nut Cheerios or Whole Grain Cheerios? What about Fruity Cheerios or Oat Crunch Cheerios or Cheerios with extra protein or Cinnamon Cheerios or Cookies & Crème Cheerios!! It’s a proven fact that most people who run screaming from Walmart have just been in the cereal aisle.

Life is all about choices. And so are our spiritual lives. We’re reminded, this morning, of Bible verses like these.

  • Choose instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than gold. Proverbs 8:10
  • Choose life, so that you and your children shall live. Deuteronomy 30:19
  • Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve... As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15

Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
