David’s Daily Devotional for May 15

May 15, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, May 15.

“Sing to the Lord with praise; make music to our God on the harp.” Psalm 147:7

What do you think of when you hear the word “harp”? You probably get a mental picture of the modern concert harp, a huge instrument over six feet tall and weighing over a hundred pounds. It has 47 strings and a range almost as wide as a grand piano.

The harp in the Bible was a small instrument with, maybe, six strings. But it has a huge presence in the Word, appearing from Genesis all the way to Revelation. The biblical harp was the national instrument of Israel and was indelibly linked with worship. One of the Hebrew words for praise, in fact, literally means “to pluck”.

Instruments change. Musical styles change. Worship practices change. What doesn’t change is the Word of God. Here’s a word on worship from Psalm 34, written by King David (who knew a thing or two about the harp!).

“Come, worship the Lord with me. Let us exalt His name together.”

Meet you back here on Monday,
David
