April 18, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, April 18. Good Friday!
Have you ever wondered why the adjective “good” is applied to the day that Jesus was brutally crucified? The answer lies in the way that the definitions of words change over time. At one time, the word “good” was a synonym of “holy,” and we can certainly see the appropriateness of that adjective for this sacred day.
The Bible tells us that Christ died at the 9th hour, 3:00 pm. And in that moment a violent earthquake struck Jerusalem. In the temple, about 600 yards from Golgotha, the curtain that hung in front of the Holy of Holies was ripped from top to bottom. The curtain was said to be 60 feet high, 30 feet wide, and 4 inches thick. Historians tell us that it took 300 priests just to move it. This curtain, this “veil”, separated us from the very presence of God. It symbolized our sin.
And Jesus, on Good Friday, tore that curtain down. He removed that veil. He opened the door for us to approach the throne of God and restore our relationship with the Father. The Curtain was the Law. The Cross is Grace. Hallelujah!
Hebrews 10:19-20 - “We have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened to us through the curtain that is His body.”
Happy Easter!
Meet you back here on Monday,
David
