April 2, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, April 2.
As we begin this month of April, the month that is at the very heart of spring, we rejoice in all the beautiful sights of the season, and rightly so. The vibrant colors of God’s creation are a revelation, a reminder of His power and divine plan. But, just as vivid as the sights of spring, are its smells. Each lovely flower, shrub, and tree also carries a lovely scent. Magnolias, Wisteria, Honeysuckle - the names alone sing out a symphony of sound. And when a soft breeze lifts all these scents in our direction - well, it’s a little foretaste of heaven.
There are two other smells that say spring to me, and I’ve experienced both of them in the last 48 hours. This past weekend we weathered a series of strong storms at our homestead in Tenaha, Texas. And when all that thunder ceased, there was the sweet smell that comes right after the rain. And yesterday morning, my lawn was cut for the first time in six months, and I enjoyed the scent of newly mown grass. Smells like these trigger deep memories in our minds, and resonate in our hearts.
The people who wrote the Bible were people of the earth, folks who spent most of their lives out-of-doors, among God’s creation, and so it is not surprising that God’s Word contains many verses that speak of smells and scents.
I leave you with this one this morning -
2 Corinthians 2:14 - Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the fragrance of the knowledge of Him in every place.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
