David's Daily Devotion for August 10

August 10, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, August 10.

On this day, in 70 AD, the Roman army set fire to the temple in Jerusalem, leaving it completely destroyed. This event was predicted 40 years before, when Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another, every one will be thrown down." (Matthew 24:2)

Jesus and His disciples, just a few days before the Cross, were walking by Herod's Temple. It was called that because King Herod had built it, beginning 20 years before Bethlehem. This was the same king that was visited by the Magi, the same one who, fearing the new child, had decreed that all boy babies should be killed. His son was the king who played a part in the killing of the Son of God.

Herod's Temple was said to be breathtakingly beautiful. Perhaps the disciples, that day in 70 AD, were focused on that beauty when they drew Jesus' attention to the temple. They were focused on the present, but Jesus spoke about the future. We, like the disciples, are often preoccupied with what we can see and touch, while God speaks to us about what is unseen. While we worry and fret about today, God speaks to us of eternity.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
