August 13, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, August 13.
This week, in 1935, a man named William Penn Rogers was killed in a plane crash in Alaska. His name has faded somewhat in the last 90 years, but at his death, Will Rogers was one of the most famous people on earth. He was a writer featured in over 4000 newspapers. He was a Hollywood actor with over 70 movies to his credit. He was a world traveler, circling the globe three times. What a life!
That life began in 1879 in humble circumstances in what was then called Indian Territory. Part Cherokee, Rogers became Oklahoma’s Favorite Son. He started out as a vaudeville performer with a cowboy rope act. A natural born talker, he would share some homespun humor as he did his rope tricks. Rogers had a unique way of looking at the world, a unique way of expressing himself, a unique voice. Here’s just a few memorable quotes from Will Rogers -
- Don’t let yesterday use up too much of today.
- You’ve got to go out on a limb sometimes, because that’s where the fruit is.
- Everybody’s ignorant, just on different subjects.
- Worrying is like paying on a debt that may never come due.
- Things ain’t what they used to be, and never were.
- Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.
- Live in a way that you wouldn’t be ashamed to sell your parrot to the biggest gossip in town.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
