David's Daily Devotion for February 11

February 11, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, February 11.

On this day, in 1847, the legendary inventor Thomas Edison was born. In the summer of 1877 he completed work on a new device that he called the phonograph. It played pre-recorded sound. That may not seem like much to our 21st century minds, but it was the first time that had happened... in the history of the world.

A few months later Edison demonstrated the device for the employees at Scientific American magazine. One of them remembered the moment like this - “A young man entered our office and placed before us a small, simple machine, about which very few introductory remarks were offered. The visitor, without any ceremony, turned a crank, and to the utter astonishment of all present, the machine said - Good morning! How do you do! How do you like the phonograph?”. Edison’s invention literally spoke for itself.

Imagine what it was like to have been in that room at that moment. Here are some other moments that come to mind this morning. What would it have been like to be in the Valley of Elah when a little boy killed a giant? Imagine what it was like to be in Bethlehem as angels sang to shepherds, on the Sea of Galilee when a man walked on water, on a rugged hill outside Jerusalem when the sun refused to shine?

Keep your eyes and ears and heart open today. God just might have a memorable moment in store for you - and you wouldn’t want to miss it.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
