January 23, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, January 23.
What’s your favorite scripture? Maybe you’ve got several - hard to pick just one. It’s kind of like having to choose a favorite hymn, out of all the ones you love. Here’s a Bible verse that I love - Psalm 33:3.
“Sing a new song to the Lord; play skillfully, and shout for joy”.
The psalmist says so much in just 13 words. A preacher could fill a month of Sundays with just this verse as a text. Here are a few thoughts.
“A new song” - Strive to keep your worship experience fresh. Make it relevant to what’s going on in your life, just like you do with your prayers. Revelation 21:5 says, “Behold, I make all things new . . .” Keep your worship new!
“Play skillfully” - I don’t think this refers to your level of ability, but rather to your level of faithfulness - faithfulness to always give Him your best. He deserves no less.
“Shout for joy” - Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us that “the joy of the Lord is our strength”. And so, the center, the foundation of our worship experience - even in trying times - should be the joy that only comes through Him.
This verse always reminds me of one of the very first contemporary worship songs. It came out of Australia in 1993. Churches don’t sing it as often as they once did, but it’s still a powerful expression of praise.
Shout to the Lord, all the earth let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands
Forever I’ll love You, forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
