David's Daily Devotion for January 23

January 23, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, January 23.

Forecasters tell us that we’re in for some “wintry mix” this weekend, maybe some sleet, maybe some snow, maybe some ice. All this talk reminded me of the winter storm of 2021. If you were around here then, you’ll no doubt remember it too. Here’s a reprint of a devotion from January, five years ago.

I wasn’t able to send out the Daily Devotion yesterday. We, and 30,000 of our neighbors, were without power. But the good news is... it was a Winter Wonderland! Ten inches of snow fell at my house in Tenaha, Texas, and it was simply beautiful.

I put on my warmest winter gear - coat, boots, scarf, cap, and long johns! - and went out for a walk. Everywhere I looked it was white. Everything I saw was covered in a soft blanket of snow. As I passed my neighbor’s houses, it was hard to remember what exactly was under all that snow. A large mound over there - oh that’s that ugly pile of brush. A strangely shaped winter sculpture over here - that’s that old broken down jalopy. But now - it’s all beautiful.

The spiritual object lesson was as clear as the ice blue winter sky. The snow had covered over all the imperfections, had covered over all the ugliness, just as the blood of Jesus covers over all our sin.

Isaiah 1:18 - Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.

All this snow will soon melt away, leaving only a memory. But God’s promise never goes away. It’s eternal, and He is faithful. Covered by the blood of Christ, we stand righteous before the Lord. Forgiven. Redeemed. White as snow.

O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow
No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus

Meet you back here on Monday. Stay warm!
David
