Good Morning! It’s Thursday, July 31.
Joseph Priestly was a minister, scientist, theologian, philosopher, and a friend of Benjamin Franklin. And on this day in 1774 he discovered oxygen. Well, I’m not sure that “discovered” is exactly the right word, since people had been breathing for quite a while before that. I guess Priestly discovered oxygen in the same way that Columbus discovered America - news that must have been a shock to the 60 million Indians already living here when Chris arrived.
Sometimes people talk about discovering God, but He’s been around for quite a while, too. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that we have gained an understanding of God - just a little. And more - little by little - each day. Verses like these encourage us to continue our search of spiritual discovery.
Jeremiah 29:13 - You will seek me and find me, says the Lord, when you seek me with all your heart.
Proverbs 8:35 - Those who find me, find life.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
