David's Daily Devotion for June 17

June 17, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, June 17.

Did you go to Sunday School when you were a kid? I’ll bet you did. And I’ll bet you loved the Bible stories, just like me - stories like Daniel and the Lion’s Den, Noah and the Ark, Ezekiel and the Dry Bones! Those stories were music to this second-grader’s ears. But my all time favorite Bible story (you’ve probably already guessed it) was David and Goliath. Maybe it was yours. Maybe it still is. But did you know there’s a sequel?

The sequel begins years after the original. David is no longer a shepherd boy with a slingshot - he’s a king with an army. And once again the Israelite army is fighting the Philistines. And just like before there’s a giant. 2 Samuel Chapter 21 tells us he was a relative of Goliath’s - maybe his son. And it also says that he had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot! That’s a story that would make a second-grader look forward to Sunday School.

David was willing to go up against this huge warrior, but his soldiers held him back. They told him that they were proud to fight in his place. And just then another young warrior steps up. He faces the giant with 24 fingers and toes and is victorious. By the way, the young soldier? He turns out to be the son of the king’s brother. The giant slayer is none other than David’s nephew! What a great tale. The stories of the Bible - they never get old.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
