David's Daily Devotion for June 19

June 19, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, June 19.

Yesterday I reminded our readers that this Sunday is Father’s Day. But it’s also another notable occasion. It’s the first day of summer. Here in Texas we don’t wait for the official date - it’s felt like summer for a while now. You’ve probably heard the joke - What are the Four Texas Seasons? Almost Summer, Summer, Still Summer, and Christmas. Not too far from the truth.

Growing up in hot and humid Houston, I remember lots of Halloweens where we sweated right through our trick or treat costumes. And Christmases when, after opening our presents, we’d go outside in shorts and t-shirts to play basketball. And then, of course, there were the times when the sun was so scorching that our Easter baskets were filled with fried eggs. Okay I made that last one up.

What are the seasons like in the Holy Land? What were the seasons like in Bible times? In truth, Israel really just has two seasons. Summer - or the dry season - begins in April and runs through October, and winter - or the rainy season - starts in November and continues until, well, summer. Spring only lasts about three weeks, and there’s no autumn to speak of.

Not that different from Texas!

Ecclesiastes 3:1 - To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.

Meet you back here on Monday,
David
