March 20, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, March 20.
Happy First Day of spring! Welcome to the Vernal Equinox. Equinox is Latin for “equal night.” On this day in March, and at the Autumnal Equinox in September, the periods of light and darkness are approximately the same. This happens each year in the Northern Hemisphere. But down south everything is opposite. Our amigos in Argentina are saying goodbye to summer today, and hello to fall. It’s a fascinating world we live in.
As a highly trained scientist(!) - I could go on and on, and share many more scientific facts about this scientific phenomenon of science. But suffice it to say... SPRING HAS SPRUNG! And praise God for it. We welcome spring today with open eyes and open hearts. We welcome spring with joy.
You can hear the joy in the king’s words from Song of Solomon 2:11-12. “See! The winter is past, the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth, the season of singing has come, and the sound of the turtledove is heard in our land.” And you can hear joy in these lovely lyrics by Eleanor Farjeon -
Morning has broken like the first morning. Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning, praise for them springing fresh from the Word.
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning, born of the One light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning, God’s re-creation of the new day.
Happy First Day of Spring! God is good.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
