March 25, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, March 25.
Today we focus on answering a question that has come up numerous times in my ministry career, and a few times in this devotion series. The question - Does God have a sense of humor? It’s an interesting question. Let’s take a moment to explore it.
I believe we can see God’s sense of humor in His creation. Have you looked at a giraffe lately? How about an emu? Or a duck-billed platypus. These are not serious animals. It’s funny to imagine Adam trying to name animals like these and being overcome with laughter!
I believe we can see God’s sense of humor in His instruction. Proverbs 15:13 instructs us that “a happy heart makes a cheerful face”. A few verses later, we find this famous prescription - “A merry heart is good medicine”. And Ecclesiastes 3 says simply, “There is a time to laugh.”
I believe we can see God’s sense of humor in His intention. At the very beginning of the Bible we are given this astounding revelation - “God made man in His own image.” So, the best parts of who we are, the features of our best self, are reflections of who He is. He gave us a sense of humor because a sense of humor is part of His character, too.
Well, that’s the end of my three-point sermonette. Hope you get the chance to laugh today. It’s a gift from God!
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
