David's Daily Devotion for May 12

May 12, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Friday, May 12.

This Sunday morning, in churches across America, a moment will be taken to recognize, honor, and pray for the mothers that are present. But on this Mother's Day, many will be remembering those moms that are no longer with us. I take a moment, this morning, to remember.

Faye Estell Wortham Mathis was a church musician, a pastor's wife, and a mother of four, of whom I am the youngest. And she was a gifted teacher. My dad was a preacher, one of the best I've ever heard. I didn't inherit that gift, but have great respect for those who walk to a pulpit every Sunday with something meaningful, something powerful to say.

My mother's gift was a quieter one. For many years she taught the Bible to a young couple's class. I vividly remember her staying up late on Saturday nights, with her study books spread out on the kitchen table, preparing her lesson. And, over the years, she became something of a surrogate mother to many of the young mothers in that group.

When my mom went on to glory in 2010, the world lost a master teacher. And now she sits at the feet of the Master.

Happy Mother's Day to all our mothers!

Meet you back here on Monday,
Bro. David
