November 15, 2024 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, November 15.
On this day, in 1917, Oswald Chambers died. The Scottish minister was in Cairo, ministering to British soldiers fighting there during World War I. He was offering the men a home away from home, and words of encouragement and hope. Chambers developed appendicitis, but delayed going to the hospital, not wanting to take a bed away from a wounded G.I. His appendix burst and he died in Egypt at the age of 43.
A few years later, in 1924, his wife took shortened versions of his sermons and put them into a book titled “My Utmost for His Highest. It featured 365 devotions, one for each day of the year, and none were more than 500 words long. Celebrating its 100th anniversary, Oswald Chambers’ book has sold more than 13 million copies, making it one of the most successful religious books of all time.
I love this book, and recommend it to you. It includes words of encouragement and hope, and inspired me to begin writing these little daily thoughts. Here’s a thought from Oswald Chambers to take you into the weekend.
“Faith never knows exactly where it is being led, but it knows the One who is leading.”
Meet you back here on Monday,
David
