November 21, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, November 21.
We end the first week of our two-week series on thankfulness with another story behind a song, a song which is, in my opinion, the greatest song of thanks ever written.
Andrae Crouch was the son of a pastor and was raised in a loving, Christian home in Los Angeles, a home that was always filled with gospel music. He began playing the piano at the age of nine, and started writing songs soon after. But Andrae had a speech impediment - he stuttered - so he would have his twin sister, Sandra, to sing his songs. At eighteen he began sharing his music at the Los Angeles Center for Teen Challenge, the organization founded by David Wilkerson, author of the famed book, “The Cross and the Switchblade”. Shortly after, Crouch formed a group and called it “The Disciples”, and the rest is Christian music history. He wrote over 300 songs - “Soon and Very Soon”, “Bless His Holy Name”, “Through it All”, “The Blood will Never Lose its Power - just to name a few. Many think that the work that he did in the 60’s and 70’s did more than anyone else to lay the foundation for what we call Contemporary Christian Music today.
In January of 1971, at the age of 26, Andrae Crouch sat down at the piano and composed this morning’s featured song, “My Tribute”. I was 15 years old that winter, and vividly remember the impact it had on my young heart. Almost 55 years later, it still inspires me. We lost Andrae in January of 2015, but his song lives on. Sing it again today - and be thankful.
How can I say thanks for the things You have done for me
Things so undeserved, yet You gave to prove Your love for me
The voices of a million angels could not express my gratitude
All that I am and ever hope to be, I owe it all to Thee
To God be the glory! To God be the glory!
To God be the glory for the things He has done!
With His blood He has saved me, with His power He has raised me,
To God be the glory for the things He has done!
Meet you back here on Monday,
David
