October 13, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, October 13.
On this day, in 54AD, the Roman emperor Claudius died. And a new emperor came to power. An emperor named Nero. And a whole new level of persecution began for the young Christian Church.
A mere 20 years had passed since Christ’s resurrection. Just two decades since the Holy Spirit had come to Christ’s disciples. But in that short amount of time, the Christian Church had accomplished something amazing, and something very dangerous. The followers of The Way, those who had taken the name of their King, the people called Christians had become a threat to the greatest power that the world had ever known, the Roman Empire.
And Nero, as crazy as he was reported to be, was well aware of that threat. When Rome was set on fire (purportedly by Nero’s order) he blamed it on the Christians. And a reign of unimaginable terror began. Thousands of believers were martyred. Many more fled to safety. And, as they fled, the gospel was spread.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
