David's Daily Devotion for October 13

October 13, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, October 13.

This morning we focus on a famous, beautiful, and inspiring passage of scripture - I Peter 2:1-5. Take a look.

“Rid yourself of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. As you come to Him - the Living Stone - rejected by men but chosen by God, you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house.”

Stone is one of the oldest building materials. It gave us Stonehenge, the Pyramids, Medieval cathedrals, and the tallest stone tower in the world, the Washington Monument. During President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal in the 1930’s and 40’s, thousands of stone structures were constructed around America. They were built by the men and women of the CCC, the Civilian Conservation Corps. Many of their creations are found here in Texas.

There’s something that ties all these stone structures together. They are all still standing. Humans build with all kinds of materials - wood, brick, clay, thatch, mud, even ice. All of these structures grow old, decay, and fall into ruin. But stone remains. Stone is stronger than the forces of nature, stronger than the winds of change. Maybe that’s why Peter chose stone as a metaphor for Jesus. The Living Stone.

And if we “build our house upon the Rock,” we too can endure. We too can brave the winds of change. We too can be... living stones.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
