October 2, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, October 2.
I was going through some of my collections the other day and came across a coin with an interesting history - the 1943 Steel Penny. I wouldn't call myself a coin collector, I only have a couple of dozen. I've shared in this venue about one of them, a 2000-year-old Roman coin that I imagine being held by someone who saw Christ.
The 1943 penny was issued in a year of war. D-Day, the invasion of Europe, was still a year away, but US soldiers were already fighting in the Pacific, in North Africa, and in Italy. And all those soldiers needed ammunition, and that ammo needed copper. To conserve that precious metal, the 1943 penny was made of steel and had a silver color, like other coins. Today, some pennies minted in that year of conflict and challenge are worth over $10,000. Alas, my Steel Penny isn't one of them!
Times of conflict and challenge are often times of change, of adaptation. And those adaptations can sometimes prove to be very valuable. There are so many Bible characters who failed before they succeeded - Moses, Jonah, David, Peter, Paul, Mark, just to name a few. And, in the end, each of these received a valuable lesson, growing in wisdom, in power, and in relationship to the Father.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
