October 27, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, October 27.
This Sunday, we’ll welcome the Praise Team from East Texas Baptist University to our church. ETBU is one of eight Baptist colleges in our state. These include Baylor in Waco, Dallas Baptist, Houston Baptist, Wayland in Plainview, Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Howard Payne in Brownwood, and Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
The ETBU Band will lead us in some contemporary worship songs, but will also include one of my favorite hymns - “My Jesus, I Love Thee.” A hymn that was written in 1862 by Billy Featherston, a 16-year-old boy. The lyrics show a spiritual maturity that’s surprising for one so young. Billy died at the tender age of 26, so perhaps God granted him wisdom early in his life, since his life would be so short.
Here are the first and last verses of Billy’s song -
My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine
For Thee, all the follies of sin I resign
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou
If ever I loved Thee, My Jesus ‘tis now
In mansions of glory and endless delight
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus ‘tis now
Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
