David's Daily Devotion for October 9

October 9, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, October 9.

Yesterday I was sipping my morning coffee, sitting in my porch swing, when an intruder came onto my property. My place is bounded by woods, and from out of the woods came a young deer. She took a leisurely stroll across my yard and then disappeared into the woods on the other side. We’re in a dry spell here in deep East Texas so maybe she was looking for water. There’s a pond back in those woods and I imagined her dipping her head down to sip her morning drink.

That mental picture reminded me of the beautiful 42nd Psalm. Here’s a portion of it.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.

I poured myself a second cup of coffee, sat for a while longer, and thought on these things.

Meet you back here on Monday,
David
