September 5, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, September 5.
The term “genius” is thrown around a lot these days. A famous football coach, a director of hit movies, a mega pop star - geniuses! After a while the word starts to lose its weight, its impact. But, back in the day, there was only one . . . Albert Einstein. In 1922, he was 42 years old, and generally considered the greatest mind on earth. That year he would receive the Nobel Prize in physics for his Theory of Relativity. But todays’s devotion is about another of Einstein’s theories - the theory of happiness.
Before accepting the famous prize, the famous scientist embarked on a world tour. He spent months traveling the globe, and one day checked into a hotel in Tokyo, Japan. He “tipped” the bell boy, not with money, but with a piece of paper containing a brief note. In 2017, the grandson of that bell boy sold that note, nicknamed The Theory of Happiness, for 1.5 million dollars. Nice tip!
While in Tokyo, Einstein met with the Japanese emperor, who was worshipped by his people as a god. Their conversation was not recorded. But it was his encounter with a lowly bell boy that would produce a message for the ages.
“A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness”.
Smart guy!
Meet you back here on Monday,
David
