David's Daily Devotion for September 11

September 11, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, September 11.

I've always been a reader. I can remember, when I was a kid, staying up after my bedtime, reading under the blanket with a flashlight. That's probably why I had to start wearing glasses in 3rd grade. In my old age I find myself reading more and more. Being somewhat of a solitary soul, I have to admit that I sometimes prefer the company of a good book to the company of people. And so, today, I'm thinking about famous last lines from famous books. Here's a few of my favorites.

"As tiny Tim observed, God bless us everyone." A Christmas Carol

"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." The Great Gatsby

"He would be there all night, and he would be there when Jem waked up in the morning." To Kill a Mockingbird

"I've grown old, but the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe." The Polar Express

"After all, tomorrow is another day." Gone With the Wind

I'm reading through my favorite book, the Bible, again this year. I've had the pleasure and blessing to do that several times in my life. This time, however, I'm not holding myself to a strict regimen of going straight through from beginning to end. I'm allowing myself the opportunity to jump around a bit. I may choose to skip past the law sections of Leviticus to spend some time in the history books like I Samuel and Acts. I may begin my reading in my favorite prophecy book, Isaiah, or my favorite gospel, John, or my favorite letter, Romans. But, when all is said and done, toward the end of 2024, I'll come to that last verse of Revelation. The last line of The Book.

"The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen."

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
