February 16, 2026 - In my previous message to the people of Shelby County, I asked, "What is a Justice of the Peace?" Today, I wish to answer that question by offering not only my convictions but also my 11 years of experience as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2.
A Justice of the Peace must be there, in every way, for the people. He or she must assist, must listen, must give mercy, support, and always have an awareness that we are all struggling in some way or another.
A Justice of the Peace must be non-judgmental, must have a compassionate and understanding heart, and be quick to encourage.
A Justice of the Peace must have seasoned listening skills, hearing both what is and is not being said.
In turn, a Justice of the Peace must be strong enough to speak honestly and in a straightforward manner.
Just as important, a Justice of the Peace must be able to laugh, to cry, and even to pray with his or her neighbors; at times that means just sitting silently and holding a hand for comfort when there are no words to say.
In the past 11 years, we as a community have been through a lot, myself included. I honor and respect each of you, just as I believe you do me. For all of my people who have known me and have walked through life with me, I genuinely love each one of you.
For those of you who are new to Shelby County and we've only recently met, I suggest you do your research. Speak with your neighbors, look at my record, then go vote accordingly. As far as the official capacity of the office of Justice of the Peace, I have obtained all the required credentials and then some. But no formal education can ever compare to experience. I've been here for you, and you have been here for me.
Early voting opens February 17 and continues through February 27. Election day is March 3rd. I am grateful for your consideration and would sincerely appreciate your vote! Let's do it again! Much love!
