Old Nacogdoches University Building – Educational History Activity Trunk

Donors Help Bring History to Life!

August 22, 2025 - Designed to make history “real,” the OUB (Old University Building) History Trunk encourages students to utilize tactile learning via a collection of hands-on materials, artifacts, documents, and activities. Not only does the trunk promote hands-on learning, it also allows learners to interact with items related to the time period, event or theme being investigated. Trunk themes will rotate to engage learners on a range of topics: “Cowboys and Cattle Drives” is the inaugural trunk them and includes several donated or loaned items. The antique trunk is fitted with wheels, so it can be moved. Students will be immersed in the period like a cattle drive game and “create your own brand” activity while utilizing photos and artifacts. Special thanks to: LeeAnn Robertson – child’s saddle; Laura Walker – spurs; Danny West – stirrups and hand-made “cowboy button”; Ronnie Tubbe – Chaps/”Chinks”. Donated items have tags added to acknowledge donors.

The Nacogdoches Junior Forum awarded the Federation of Women’s Clubs a $650 grant for an educational trunk to be used as a teaching tool for students touring the building and museum. In addition, Junior Forum members will assist in educational presentations. There is no charge for tours; visiting the OUB supports social studies TEKS and can be a great component of a tour that includes several historic sites. The OUB Educational History Activity Trunk program is coordinated by Alease Copelin, OUB School Tour Chair.
