September 21, 2026 (Photo Album) - The Timpson Bears varsity football team earned their first loss of the season to the visiting Westwood Palestine Panthers by a 70-35 score on Thursday. The game puts the Bears 3-1 with one game remaining before district play begins.
Timpson earned a turnover on the starting punt, putting their offensive line at Westwood’s 32-yard line. On third down and 2, Albert Parker Jr. was able to break through the defensive line for a first down and goal. An offsides penalty pushed the Bears down to third and goal at the 6-yard line. C'Najai Henderson rushed the ball in to put the Bears on top 6-0 after a failed extra point kick.
After 4 minutes of play, the Westwood Panthers get their first drive. QB Kavian Bryant broke through the Bear’s defensive line for a 32-yard gain, putting them in Bear territory. Bryant had no difficulty finding his brother, Kaden Bryantm for a 31-yard touchdown pass. The Bears managed to block the extra-point attempt, tying the game 6-6 with under 7 minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Bears quickly made it back down the field after rushing gains from Alex Castillo and Jamichael Page. Another offsides penalty against them pushed them back for a first and fifteen, but that did not stop Henderson from rushing for a Timpson Touchdown, now giving the Bears a 13-6 lead.
It was a slow start in the 2nd quarter for both teams, but the action picked up when Luke Fields broke through the defensive line for a 36-yard rushing touchdown; Bears ahead 20-6 with less than 5 minutes left in the first half. Palestine Westwood retaliated by making serious rushing gains as the first half clock dwindled. Major gaps in Timpson’s defensive line allowed Kavian Bryant to run down the field in 5 plays before passing 25-yards to Kaden Bryant for the Panther’s second touchdown of the game. The Bears did not find an opportunity to score on the next drive, but starting at their own 15-yard line, the Panthers hit an 82-yard pass play for a touchdown, closing the gap 20-13.
Catching the punt at the 17-yard line, Timpson’s Albert Parker ran down the field for an 83-yard touchdown. Timpson led 27-19 with 1:35 left in the half. The Panthers still found time to rush down the field for one last touchdown and two-point conversion to tie the game 27-27 at the half.
On their first drive of the 2nd half, the Panthers’ Brown broke through Timpson’s defense for a 60-yard carry. The Panthers scored and made a two-point conversion, taking the lead 35-27 after 4 minutes of play. Once again, Westwood Palestine broke through Timpson’s D-Line to make it down the field for another touchdown, increasing their lead to 41-27 halfway through the 3rd quarter. On their next drive, Timpson could not take advantage of the 3 penalties against the Panthers on their punts, giving them great field position at Westwood’s 38-yard line. After a turnover, Westwood started at their own 41-yard line and the Bryant brothers teamed up again for another touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good; Westwood expanded their lead 42-27 with 3 minutes left in the quarter.
Westwood Palestine recovered the punt at Timpson’s 45-yard line, which led to a 45-yard touchdown run after Brown broke through 10 defensive linemen. This time, the two-point conversion was successful, Westwood leading 55-27 after 30 seconds of play. On the opening drive of the fourth quarter, Timpson’s Alex Castillo caught a 13-yard pass for a touchdown; the two-point conversion was good, for a 55-35 score. Timpson only allowed two more touchdowns and was unable to score another touchdown themselves. The final score was 70-35.
The Bears will host the Arp Tigers next Friday, September 25, 2026, for a 7:30pm kickoff. The Tigers are 4-0 after defeating Shelbyville last week.
