Commissioners Approve New Cloud Based Financial Software

December 4, 2024 - The Shelby County Commissioners moved forward with a new cloud based financial software system during their meeting held November 20, 2024.

Clint Porterfield, County Auditor, then enlightened the commissioners on a written proposal from Financial Intelligence for new cloud based financial system software.

Shelby County Grand Jury Indicts 12 Cases; One Case Presented on Information

December 3, 2024 - A Shelby County Grand Jury handed down 12 indictments on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. The grand jury was impaneled for the July 2024 term of the 123rd/273rd Judicial District Courts.

Christopher Lamar Pleasant was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, second degree felony. The indictment alleges, on July 7, 2024, Pleasant recklessly caused bodily injury to Crystal Fenley by striking her in the head with a stick, knocking her to the ground, and then choking her. November 29, 2024 - Funeral services for Jimmy Lout, Commissioner Precinct 2, were held Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home.

Richardson Street in Joaquin Focus of HAZMAT Cleanup Efforts

November 28, 2024 - Richardson Street in Joaquin is the site of an alleged illegal dumping incident and authorities are seeking details on those responsible.

According to Joaquin Mayor Jessie Griffith, used cooking grease was discovered on November 27, 2024, and authorities with TCEQ were contacted.

Mayor Griffith reports, a cleanup operation is ongoing and is expected to take days to complete.

County Commissioners Receive Update on Jail Non-Compliance

November 19, 2024 - The Shelby County Commissioners received an update on the Shelby County Jail Non-compliance during their meeting held Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

Sheriff's Department Arrests One on Murder Allegation

November 16, 2024 - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed the arrest of Madisyn Ramsey, 18, of Tenaha on the charge of murder, felony 1, on November 13, 2024, in connection with the shooting death of Camo Morton, 17, of Timpson on July 27, 2023.

County Road 4855 Open to General Traffic

November 14, 2024 - Commissioner Bellmyer reports the work on County Road 4855 has been complete and the roadway is now open to general traffic.

November 12, 2024 - Tom Bellmyer, Commissioner Precinct 4, announces the closure of County Road 4855 due to a culvert washout Friday, November 8.

The road is closed 1/2 mile off FM 1970 allowing for a turnaround and access is available off Rosehill Road.

CR 4855 is expected to be closed today November 12, 2024 and will hopefully re-open late November 13, 2024.

SC Commissioners Implement 2024 Budget Amendments, Line Item Transfers

November 13, 2024 - A number of line item transfers and budget amendments were accomplished through approval of the Shelby County Commissioners’ Court during their meeting held November 6, 2024.

Shelby County Reps Address TCJS Commission Due to Non-Compliance

November 12, 2024 - Representatives of Shelby County faced the Texas Commission on Jail Standards on November 7, 2024, for a hearing on the jail’s non-compliance designation.

The commission had a long agenda addressing issues with jails across the state, and Shelby County was just one of them.

Those present from Shelby County included Kevin Windham, Sheriff; Chad Hooper, Chief Deputy; Tiffany Ryals, Jail Administrator; Allison Harbison, Shelby County Judge; Tom Bellmyer, Commissioner Precinct 4; and Luciana Barr, Emergency Management Coordinator.
