Missing Joaquin Man Located Safe After Search

January 15, 2020 - On January 14, 2020, at approximately 10 a.m., the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call concerning a missing man in the area of County Road 3685 in Joaquin. The caller indicated that Elzie Holland, 68, of Joaquin, had left on foot to retrieve items from a residence located next door at approximately 7:45 p.m. on January 13. Holland never made it to the residence nor did he return home. The caller stated that Holland was using a walker at the time of his disappearance and did not get around well unassisted.

SCSO Investigates Structure Fire, Releases Name of Victim

November 18, 2019 - On November 17, 2019, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to a structure fire on County Road 4084 off FM 415. The first deputy on scene arrived to find a house that was burned completely down. The callers advised they were told that the house next to their land had burned sometime during the night. The house, which is used as a camp house, is in a remote location on this county road.

Aggravated Robbery Results in Arrest of Son, Mother

September 13, 2019 - Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies responded to a residence located in the Campti community in Shelby County on August 17, 2019, at 4:30am, in reference to an aggravated robbery. Deputies learned that the homeowner was asleep and was awakened by the intruder. The homeowner stated the intruder was demanding money. The intruder forced the homeowner to the floor and forced her to empty her wallet.

Sheriff's Office Reports Missing Person Found Safe

August 6, 2019 - Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) were dispatched to County Road 3090 on August 5, 2019, at approximately 8:15 p.m in the Campti area in regards to a missing person.

Once on scene, deputies learned that Marcelo Retamar, 44, of Joaquin, had been building a fence along with several co-workers on a property located on County Road 3102. According to the co-workers, at approximately 5:30pm, Retamar walked to retrieve water approximately 100 yards away, and when they looked up, he was gone.
