I did something unusual last night. It was three a.m. and I was visited by my old friend Insomnia, a frequent guest ever since I turned left at middle age. This time, however, instead of turning on the TV, or turning over and trying to get back to sleep . . . I decided to go outside.

Does the number 525,600 mean anything to you? Well, that’s the number of minutes in a year. That’s a whole lot of minutes. But what can you really accomplish in a minute? You could play Chopin’s “Minute Waltz”, but no matter how much I practiced I could never finish it in time. So let’s turn our attention to another number - 1741. Doesn’t ring any bells? Well, that’s the number of times the word “day” or “daily” is found in God’s Word. Here’s just a few examples -
September 9, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Monday, September 9.
Last Saturday night, we had a celebrity sighting in Shelby County, Texas. Elvis Presley was in the building, giving a concert in our Civic Center! And for a guy who's pushing ninety years old, he looked good. It was a fundraiser for Shelby County Outreach, the organization in our area that faithfully cares for the needy. A great cause. A great concert. A great night.
June 19, 2024 - The Ministerial Alliance of Shelby County is hosting a lunch meeting for any minister on Thursday, June 20, noon at First Baptist Center, 117 Cora Street, Center, Texas. May 20, 2024 - First Baptist Center's Men's Ministry is hosting a Fish Fry Tuesday, May 21, 5:30 at 717 CR 1140.
This location is a "man cave" just 5 minutes west of Center off of Highway 7. Every man in our community is warmly welcomed to this time of food and fellowship.

May 2, 2024 - We regret to announce that the National Day of Prayer event, scheduled for today, Thursday, May 2, has been cancelled due to the weather. Shelby County is under flood watch and thunderstorms are likely through the noon hour.
Everyone is encouraged to take a moment today to lift up prayers for our country and for our community.
April 23, 2024 - First Baptist Center is sponsoring a Senior Adult Day Trip to the Lufkin Zoo next Monday, April 29. Any senior is warmly welcome. The group will leave First Baptist, 117 Cora, at 8am on the church bus and in private cars and will return at 2pm. The cost is $6 and that includes the zoo and the zoo train. Lufkin Zoo is very "Senior Friendly", is beautifully landscaped, and features an amazing array of animals. The group will have lunch at a BBQ restaurant before returning home. April 12, 2024 - The Golden Harvest Senior Adult Community Club will host its regular Third Monday Lunch on April 15 at 11:30 at First Baptist Center, 117 Cora.
The meal is free, and all seniors are welcome. We'll welcome Center mayor, David Chadwick, who will deliver a "State of the City" address. Join us!
