And when I say “we,” I certainly include “me,” because I’ve done my damaging part, not intentionally, but in ignorant horticultural bliss.

Our gardens, our neighborhoods, our cities, our farms, and our beloved wild Texas has serious issues that need addressing; now, not later.

Prescribed Burn in Arcadia Planned for Sunday

March 9, 2022 - Greg Grant will be conducting a controlled burn on his 20 acres of longleaf pine in Arcadia on Sunday, March 13. In addition to creating a scenic, open, park-like pine forest and promoting native grasses and wildflowers, regular prescribed fire reduces fuel loads, decreasing the chance of catastrophic fires during the summer; controls underbrush, diseases, and insects; and promotes wildlife habitat for deer, turkey, quail, pollinators, and pine savanna songbirds.

2022 East Texas Fruit, Nut, Vegetable Conference

December 29, 2021 - The annual East Texas Fruit, Nut and Vegetable Conference, Friday, January 14 at the Cross Brand Cowboy Church (11915 FM 2015, Tyler, Texas 75708) will offer both professional and amateur gardeners tips on blackberries, blueberries, fire ants, native fruits and nuts, pecan grafting, peppers, and tomatoes.

Greg Grant, Allen Owings to Speak at “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” Gardening Seminar

May 6, 2021 - The Smith County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Horticultural Education Committee will be hosting a spring landscape seminar Friday, May 28 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 noon at the Tyler Rose Garden Center. The program is $20 and will address dealing with dead or damaged plants from the recent Big Freeze as well as beautiful new and proven plants to replace them with.

The seminar will be followed by the formal dedication of the newly designated Tyler Botanical Garden, located in the south area of the Tyler Rose Garden.
