March 13, 2017 - The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). NFIP works closely with many private insurance agencies to offer flood insurance to homeowners, renters, and business owners. To qualify for flood insurance these individuals must live in a community that has joined NFIP. Shelby County has been participating in the NFIP since June 28, 2016 and is referred to as an “emergency” participant and as of this date, remains an NFIP participant.
February 16, 2017 - Shelby County has lost treasured members of its family. Terry and Pam Bailey were life-long pillars of our community and their absence will leave a void for years to come. The County mourns with their families; however, their spirits will live on in their wonderful children and grandchildren. Their dedication to their community is only surpassed by their dedication to their family and each other. They passed as they lived; together, enjoying life to the fullest.
March 10, 2016 - As the Shelby County Emergency Management Director, I am issuing a county-wide Declaration of Disaster and a Mandatory Evacuation for all residents that live on the Sabine River and Toledo Bend Lake within Shelby County.
December 29, 2015 - I would like to thank Dellinger’s Store and Trees for the beautiful Christmas tree that they donated to Shelby County.
Dellingers has donated the tree for the courthouse for many years and this year’s tree was the fullest and prettiest one yet. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of our community and thank you for the beautiful tree. We appreciate Dellinger’s support and acknowledge their contribution to the county during this most blessed Holiday Season.
July 21, 2015 - Shelby County has officially been added to the declaration for DR-4223. FEMA inspectors will begin making appointments with residents that applied for assistance. This information should be released to the public so that the citizens are aware in order to limit the number of phone calls inquiring about inspections.
