August 19, 2021 - When Saul was King of Israel, he became insanely jealous of David. Jealous to the point where he tried on several occasions to kill David. In I Samuel chapter 20, we read that it was the new moon, however David was going to be absent from his place at Saul’s table.
August 12, 2021 - There is an interesting incident in the life of Jesus recorded in Mark chapter 14. Jesus was the guest of honor in the house of Simon the leper. While having dinner, a woman came with a box of precious ointment and broke the box and poured the ointment on the head of Jesus.
August 5, 2021 - James would write for us, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow, For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” (James 4:14) If you want to make God laugh, really laugh, tell Him what you are going to do tomorrow.
July 29, 2021 - It is an exciting time when a toddler abandons crawling and takes those first faltering steps. Once that happens, it is not long until they are going to attempt to climb the stairs. If they have reached The talking stage, they will inform you that they will do it "all on their own." However, parents are standing nearby to see how they make out and make sure they do not fall. To be sure, that little toddler will reach the top safely if they just keep going. For them, the last step is just as easy as the first one.
July 22, 2021 - In Matthew 18:3, Jesus said, "Unless you change your whole outlook and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Phillips). Do we really comprehend what it is to have the faith of a child?
July 15, 2021 - Jesus was a man of few words, that was His general character. He was not one of those who would tell you how to make a watch. Neither was He one who used flattery or exaggeration. When Jesus complimented someone, the things He said were very few.
When Jesus gave someone a compliment, it was not superficial. It had nothing to do with a person’s clothing or style. It had to do with their heart and their character.
July, 7 2021 - This past Sunday was July 4th. A day that we celebrate as “Independence Day” All over America, in communities large and small, people were celebrating and observing this day in a variety of ways. Yet, as we pause and remember those who began this quest for freedom on July 4, 1776, and we celebrate our independence and freedom, how often do we pause to reflect and remember the one who gave us the ultimate freedom?
July 1, 2021 - Is the message of the cross relevant for today? What is there for men and women of the 21st century? Can the events on a hill so long ago affect us now? Can the death of one man by crucifixion affect men and women when thousands can now be killed with one bobm? The answer is yes, yes the message of the cross is current and relevant. There are two short words in John’s Gospel (John 19:28) that show us how current this message is. Those words are when Jesus says, “I thirst”.
June 24, 2021 - Sorrow is a universal experience, it comes to the rich and poor, to the powerful and the weak. So much of the sorrow in our world is unseen, often it is hidden from view purposely. Many times it is known only to the individual and to God. It can be buried beneath a cheerful countenance and earthly baubles. Yet, even the most cheerful often have troubled hearts.
June 17, 2021 - Faith is a common denominator in all of our lives. We daily express faith in something. In fact, we cannot live a single day without exercising faith. To be sure, we have faith in the physical world.
