March 11, 2019 - Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church 26th appreciation service honoring Pastor and Sister Freddie D. Wilson.

Sunday, March 17, 2019 at 3pm. Theme: "A Worthy Laborer," 1 Timothy 5:17-18.

Evangelist: Pastor Edwin Scott, Hollywood Baptist Church Shreveport, Louisiana

March 11, 2019 - Love and peace from our brother Jesus. Sunday was the First Sunday in Lent. Last Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, which begins the forty-day period of Lenten devotion. Our Sunday school lesson was titled “A Costly Call.” Ms. Fannie explained it well, and the “hard sayings” of Jesus in Luke 14 were important for us to hear. Gene read the scripture from Mark 1 and Luke 14. In Mark we are told how Jesus called Simon and Andrew and then James and John to be his disciples. They immediately followed Jesus. In the Luke Gospel Jesus tells the high cost of discipleship, a list that makes us uncomfortable. Jesus tells the large crowd to be sure to weigh the heavy cost before becoming a follower of Jesus. Lent is a good time to think about that cost, trying more faithfully to follow in Jesus’ footsteps.

The Holy Gospel for this Sunday was Luke 4: 1-13. Luke takes Jesus from the baptismal waters to the wilderness of temptation. After the forty days of fasting and prayer, Jesus is ready to set his sights on Jerusalem and to proclaim to all who will listen that God’s Kingdom is right around the corner.

Daylight Savings Time took effect this weekend, and we lost an hour of sleep. I guess we will enjoy the extra of daylight at the end of the day—once we get over the “jet lag” of the hour change. This Thursday we have our ministry at Focused Care. All this month we will be collecting cans of chili for Community Christian Services.

Whoever you are, in whatever faith you were born, whatever creed you profess; if you come to this house to find God you are welcome here.” Paxton United Methodist Church is an inviting church that takes to heart the idea of “Open Doors, Open Hearts, Open Minds.” Sunday School starts at 9:30 and Worship begins at 10:00. Our email address is paxtonumc@yahoo.com. If you would like the weekly email newsletter about Paxton Methodist you can send me your email address to the Paxton email address and I will add you to the list. God’s Speed.

March 11, 2019 - Lydia Missionary Baptist Church invites everyone to their Sunday, March 17 services at 11am and 6pm to hear Christian Country music artist Wes McMillian.

Although a relative newcomer to the music industry, Wes McMillian is no stranger to music. Having written songs for as long as he remembers, only in recent years did this native Texan begin to bring these songs into the public eye. In fact, for many years he refused to even sing publicly so the songs he had been inspired him to write were just played at home for family. Upon the encouragement and prompting of his wife, Laura, Wes recorded his first album of original music in 2010 titled “I’m Not That Way Anymore”.

His first three radio releases landed in the Top Ten in America – even seeing some Top Ten charting in Europe. Along the way, he has garnered multiple nominations for Horizon, Male Vocalist, Favorite Song and Artist, and Favorite Video. In 2012 he was honored as a recipient of the Artists Music Guild Heritage Award for New Artist of the Year.

Now, with a new album in hand, Wes is returning to radio with the title track “I Want You To Know” – a song sure to touch those from every walk of life with a story of redemption and hope. Stories of Home, Faith, Family, and Freedom abound in this album sure to rival the best of mainstream country radio.

Lydia MBC is located on FM 139 in Huxley. To learn more about Wes McMillian, visit https://www.wesmcmillian.com/

March 11, 2019 - When Jesus, our Lord, ascended back to the Father in heaven he left his disciples that were there with him this instruction. He told them to stay there in Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father, which he had told to them when he said, “for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1:5)

And then he said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

And so the Apostles stayed in Jerusalem for seven weeks and on the seventh Sunday after the resurrection, came the day of Pentecost, (in the Greek, the fiftieth day). They were all together with many, many people that day.

“And suddenly, there came from heaven, a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the house where they were sitting.” (Acts 2:2)

“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:4)

“And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in their own language. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?” (Acts 2:6-8)

“Both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians - we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” (Acts 2:11)

And so the work of the new church of “The Way” began its ministry and its miracles with the Apostles preaching the gospel of our Lord to all who would listen.

Peter, always being the most outspoken leader of the Apostles rose and began to speak to all who were there, saying, “Men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know - this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.” (Acts 2:22-24)

“Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both and Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” (Acts 2:36)

“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37)

“And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38)

And that offer still stands today for all who would come forth in repentance, accepting Jesus Christ as their own personal Lord and Savior.

Will you stand up today and accept him as your Lord? Only through Jesus can one find eternal life in heaven, only through Jesus Christ can one be saved. Come today…
